Does Constipation Or Not Going To The Bathroom Make Your Weight Go Up On The Scale?

Sorry if this sounds gross, but the weight scale said I lost 10 pounds 2 weeks ago..I’ve been working my butt off to lose weight and all of my old clothes are loose.
But this morning I weighed myself and it said I gaind 5 pounds! I also haven’t been going to the bathroom on a regular basis though and have been having a hard time defecating………so could that be it? I haven’t been over-eating, so how is it possible that I gained 5 pounds in 2 weeks?

get a herbal laxative tea and have a cup at night…its best to do this in the weekends like on a friday night, assuming u’ll be home on saturday….it really helps.
the best time to weigh yourself is always in the morning, after going to the toilet. constipation DOES affect your weight on the scale. u should weigh after eliminating any kind of waste.
i lost alot of weight a few years ago and was chronically constipated after that, and had to rely on herbal laxatives and teas for a long time…i don’t need them anymore though, i’m eating lotsa more fruits and veggies these days.
tip: trying eating a few prunes with a glass of warm water every night, otrher than that, u could try eating 3 apples a day…helps with weight loss or maintenance, and the high fibre in apples helps with constipation….last but not least, don’t forget to drink atleast 8 glasses of water a day!
    HTH, good luck.
PS. constipation also makes u bloat, so ur pants might feel tight…other than that u could also be retaining water in your body…all this can add up about 6 to 7 pounds! used to happen to me alot n i’d mistake it for weight gain in fat…used to frustrate the heck outta me….

weight gain like that can be pre-menestral gain. chill out and see if it leaves after your cycle is over. as far as being constipated, drink lots of water do your don’t dehydrate and eat lots of vegetables preferably raw. celery if you can stand it is good for negitive calories. that and the extra water will also help your BM’s

No not at all constipation is dangerous and must be treated well…constipation must make you loose weight not gain it because your appetite goes down without defecating. see your doctor

    Yes.
I wondered the same thing, and I am a 68 year old male. I got ready for a colonoscopy and before I cleaned my self totally out for th procedure, I weighed myself. After I cleaned my self out, I weighed 7 pounds less, so you could say that the bowels do retain enough to affect your weight.

    Yes.
These foods are more easily passed through the system:
    vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
These foods are more difficult to pass: meat, cheese, milk, and eggs.
Start a walking program every day and that will help massage the intestines and move that stuff along.

  6. It’s doubtful that you have five pounds of poop in you. Maybe a few ounces but that’s it. You’ve probably gained muscle, which is a good thing. Muscle weighs more than fat. Worry more about the way you feel and the way your clothes fit than what the scale says.

More fibre and drink more water, many people can supposedly have up to 20 or more pounds of compacted fecal matter in their colon at any one time. Oh yeah and what Voodootabby said too.

Yes! If you haven’t pooped your food out, then where does it go? It doesn’t, it just sits there inside of you. So it adds weight. So does liquid. So whenever you weigh yourself make sure you go to the bathroom first! Pee and poop! Trust me, if you weight yourself before you go to the bathroom, then you go to the bathroom, then weigh yourself again, you probably have lost a few pounds from beforehand when you had all your food inside of you.

  9. Offending Party says:

that might be it and also you might be retaining water bc you are not drinking enough. Try lots of fiber and more water

U figure it out…If you have not crapped you will weigh more…Weigh your self before and after dropping the kids off at the pool and you will see…
